Facilities Maintenance

Harry Harris Park dugouts get Hurricane Irma makeover.Facilities Maintenance is primarily responsible for maintaining and repairing more than 100 county-owned and maintained buildings with over one million square feet of area, as well as a few leased county buildings throughout the Florida Keys. The department also monitors contracts for building maintenance, such as:

  • Air quality testing
  • Alarm system certification and maintenance
  • Elevator inspection and maintenance
  • Sewage treatment plant operations and maintenance
  • Pest management

The Facilities Maintenance Department also maintains more than 100 acres of Monroe County-owned parks, beaches, and boat ramps from Key West to Ocean Reef.

Facilities Master Plan

In August 2013 architects prepared a 25-year master space and facilities plan for the various government departments and offices located in facilities throughout Monroe County. 

Mission Statement

The mission of the Facilities Maintenance Department is to maintain all county buildings, grounds, constitutional offices, parks, and beaches at the highest level of quality and in the most efficient manner to provide employees, citizens, and visitors with clean, safe, and comfortable facilities. 

Funding

Since 1995, Facilities Maintenance/Public Works has received funding from the Tourist Development Tax to offset labor and maintenance costs associated with county beaches and museums. The Tourist Development Tax has also funded various capital improvement projects at county beaches and museums.

Bidding

Competitive bidding of construction contracts by sealed bids, Request for Proposals (RFPs), and RFQs are conducted by the department to ensure the best items and prices are received.
