March 6, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM @ Marathon Branch, Monroe County Public Library
For interested young adults, the Marathon Branch of Monroe County Public Library is hosting Lois Wolfe Markham, Associate Professor of English at Florida Keys Community College, for a creative writing workshop on Monday, March 6th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Community Room. The workshop is also an information session for Marathon Writes, the second-annual student creative writing competition sponsored by Marathon Middle High School and FKCC. The contest, previously only available to students of MMHS or FKCC, provides a $100 prize to each division winner. By supporting an “Open Teen” division, the Library hopes to attract homeschooled students and any other students throughout Monroe County, grades 6-12, who may not have previously qualified. Entries may include stories, poetry, plays, and essays. The deadline for entry is March 31st. Contest information and entry forms may be picked up at any Monroe County Public Library.
