The Monroe County Board of County Commissioners presented a 25 Years of Service award to Mary Wingate, Chief of Floodplain Regulatory Operations in the Monroe County Building Department, during today’s virtual meeting. The commissioners and administration recognize long-term employees for their contributions to the county and appreciate her commitment and service to Monroe County citizens.
“Mary provides the services that are needed for floodplain operations and does so with passion and does so professionally,” said Christine Hurley, Assistant County Administrator. “It is a challenging and oftentimes a thankless job.”
During her 25 years, Wingate has done floodplain compliance, permitting, and regulations and works closely with FEMA for communitywide discounts on flood insurance through the Community Rating System.
“Most people probably do not understand how important the job is that Mary does and if it weren’t for the work she does we wouldn’t be back in the Community Rating System that gives a discount for insurances,” said Monroe County Mayor Heather Carruthers.
