[ARCHIVED] New Roadway Construction Project to begin

On Tuesday September 4, 2012 the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is scheduled to begin a milling and resurfacing project on SR5/US1/Overseas Highway between MM 90.021 and MM 90.75. The length of the project is 0.729 miles.

The project is scheduled from September 4 to December 2, 2012. The work that will be performed:
Milling and resurfacing along a four-lane section of the highway within the projects limits
Updating signage
New traffic stripping

The affected municipality are Islamorada, Village of Islands.

To do this work safely, it will be necessary to close travel lanes. The contractor plans to close one of two lanes in each direction so access is maintained at all times. Lane closures will occur during non-peak times.

9:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday
8:00pm to 6:00am Sunday through Friday morning
No lane closures will occur on a Saturday, a holiday, a Friday preceding a Saturday holiday or a Monday following a Sunday holiday.
No lanes will be closed during special events as determined by the project engineer.
Signs will be used as needed to help direct traffic. Tasks will be done in stages to lessen the effects of construction. Entrances to properties will be kept open.
