The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee was established on May 21, 2008 by Ordinance 014-2008 replacing the previous Workforce Housing Task Force.  The mission of the committee is to address the issue of affordable housing opportunities for residents and workforce and to fulfill the requirements in Section 420.9076 of the Florida Statutes regarding the Local Housing Assistance Plan.

Initial appointments were made June 18, 2008 by Resolution 158-2008 with the eleven members required to comprise the advisory committee corresponding to the requirements for the eleven members of the former Task Force.

On February 18, 2009 Resolution 062-2009 was adopted retiring current membership, changing method of appointment, spreading required categories of membership through the Commission districts and setting a minimum frequency of meetings to once per year unless called more frequently by the BOCC.  The advisory committee shall remain an eleven member committee with each Commissioner appointing two members, criteria of which is outlined in the ordinance, and the Mayor appointing a member of the Local Planning Agency (Planning Commission).  The new membership is to serve a term to coincide with the appointing Commissioner’s term.
