CURRENT SITUATION:

Monroe County Emergency Management continues to monitor the progress of Hurricane Gustav.

Gustav is a category one hurricane located 765 statue miles to the southeast of Key West and moving northwest at 9 mph.  Gustav is expected to make landfall in Haiti this afternoon and will likely be between Haiti and eastern Cuba tonight.

As it is forecasted that Gustav will take a path to the south of Cuba it is likely that tropical storm force winds will remain well south of the Keys.  For the marine community, this will mean “breezy winds and choppy seas” for the weekend.
