Operational Period: August 27, 2008; 6:00 am to August 28, 2008; 6:00 am

CURRENT SITUATION:

Monroe County Emergency Management is currently monitoring the progress of Hurricane Gustav.  

Gustav is moving toward the West near 5 mph. A West to West-Northwest track is forecast during the next day or two with a gradual increase in forward speed.

Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph with higher gusts and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 50 miles.

There are no protective actions for Monroe County at this time, but we are closely watching the development of Hurricane Gustav in the event of a track change that would necessitate protective actions.

LOCAL ACTIONS:

Monroe County Emergency Management has taken the following actions:
·       EOC Activation at Level 3 – Monitoring
·       The Emergency Management office will continue to collect and disseminate information regarding the weather conditions

Monroe County Emergency Management encourages all residents, visitors and interested parties to:
·       Closely monitor the Hurricane through local weather reports, radio stations, TV channel 76 or the Monroe County Website at www.monroecounty-fl.gov.
·       Review their Emergency Plan
·       Recognize that due to the location of this storm, it may intensify rapidly and threaten the Florida peninsula necessitating the rapid implementation of all preparations and response plans
