Description of Services
Monroe County Veterans Affairs has three offices located in the Florida Keys. The main office is located in Key West and is staffed by the Director, the Deputy Director, one Veterans Service Counselor and one Senior Administrative Assistant. The Key West Office also is the home base for the two Transportation Vans and the Transportation Drivers.
The office in the Middle Keys (Marathon, FL) is staffed by one Veterans Service Counselor and a Transportation Coordinator/Counselor’s Aide.
The office in the Upper Keys (Plantation Key, FL) is staffed by a Veterans Service Officer and a Veterans Service Counselor.
All three offices help active duty personnel and military retirees as well as veterans and their families obtain federal benefits such as:
l Compensation for service related disability and for non service connected pension
l Educational benefits
l Home loans
l Outpatient treatment and hospitalization
l Insurance claims and Social Security appeals
l Burial allowances and widows’ benefits
l Transportation to Miami Medical Center (VA)
The department also provides assistance in obtaining State benefits such as free car tags and fishing licenses for those who are 100% service connected.
