The Monroe County Land Authority acquires property for conservation, recreation, and affordable housing. The Land Authority was established to assist in the implementation of land use plans and to serve as an intermediary between land owners and government agencies that regulate land use. The agency is a blended component unit of Monroe County government created pursuant to Florida Statutes section
380.0663
and Monroe County Code section
2-397
. The Land Authority is funded by a surcharge on admissions and overnight occupancy at state parks in the unincorporated county and by a half-cent of the tourist impact tax charged on lodging in the Keys.
