The county attorney's office represents the officials and employees of Monroe County in all civil legal matters relating to the discharge of their official duties.
The county attorney and assistant county attorneys:
Approve all contracts, bonds, and written instruments for form and correctness
Draft and review ordinances and resolutions
Prosecute and defend all lawsuits brought by and against the county
Render legal opinions upon request to the
Board of County Commissioners
, constitutional officers, county administrator, and business centers
Represent the county at administrative hearings
The County’s Risk Management department and functions are supervised and administered by the County Attorney’s Office. The County Attorney and Risk Management Administrator work together to manage, review, assess, and defend liability and tort claims made against the County, analyze and mitigate liability and loss of County resources, eliminate or reduce exposure of County assets to loss, monitor and manage costs of liability claims, oversee indemnification and hold harmless agreements, ensure the County has proper insurance coverage in its agreements and for its projects, and coordinate and supervise the work of outside counsel.
