The Fire Rescue Operations personnel respond to fire, EMS, and other emergencies to protect the citizens and property in the unincorporated areas of Monroe County Fire from Tavernier to Stock Island and Key West International Airport. There are approximately 111 firefighters employed by Monroe County including six battalion chiefs, two captains, and 21 lieutenants. Monroe County also has more than 150 volunteer firefighters and first responders to supplement the career firefighters.
Each of the stations work in three shifts consisting of 24 hours with 48 hours off. Each ambulance in the department has at least one certified Firefighter/Paramedic on it for all calls. Our vehicles include engines/pumpers, water tankers and ambulances/rescues.
