The National Hurricane Center began issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Irene Saturday evening.
The storm formed east of the Leeward Islands and was positioned some 1,625 miles to the east, southeast of Key West, according to the NHC.
At this time, the Florida Keys and the entire southern half of the Florida mainland are in a five-day tropical cyclone forecast track-error cone.
No protective actions in the Keys have been taken at this time, although Monroe County Emergency Management officials are monitoring the situation.
Interests in the Keys and South Florida are advised to monitor the future progress of Irene as well.
More detailed Irene-related TDC advisories are likely to begin Monday.
