[ARCHIVED] Infrastructure Tax Information

1¢ SALES TAX EXTENSION ITEM

Voters have an opportunity this November 6th to vote on an extension of a 1-cent sales tax (not property tax) that has been in existence for 22 years, and has raised more than $344 million for local projects such as sewers, roads, libraries, parks, and bridges.
Of every $1.00 spent in the County on taxable purchases, 1¢ is paid into a special infrastructure fund. Tourists spend more than residents in the County, so tourists pay more than 50% of the fund. Funds collected are distributed not only to the County, but to every city as well, helping to fund millions of dollars of local infrastructure projects reducing the need for property taxes.
