Is there pre-employment testing?

Yes. There is a 4-step process to qualify applicants to be placed on the Monroe County Fire Rescue (MCFR) eligibility list.

  1. Candidates must first pass a written examination.
  2. Candidates who pass the written exam will then be scheduled for a pre-employment physical ability test (PAT) designed to simulate firefighter activities. They will face a variety of scenarios, some of which must be completed within a certain period of time.
  3. Candidates that pass the PAT will then be scheduled for a pre-employment medical ability test (MAT) designed to simulate medical activities.
  4. Candidates that pass the MAT will then be scheduled for personal interviews. Successful candidates will then be placed on the eligibility list for a period of one year.
